It is Sunday, and you know what that means: another weekly reading roundup!
Due to some medical issues, I did not post on Thursday, and I had to majorly slow down reading this week, so I was only able to read a couple books. I am trying to give myself more grace when I need a break.
That being said, here are the two books I read this week, as well as some thoughts on each one.
Death is Hard Work by Khaled Khalifa
Genre(s): Contemporary, Literary
My rating: 4.5 stars
This is a book I think everyone should read at some point. It is poignant and incredibly important. I don’t think I can describe to you the feeling this book gave me. I just know it stuck with me, and will continue to stick with me, for a long time.
I love to read books about death and grief, and this book was a raw and unflinchingly honest look at how different grief can look for everyone, as well as what living in a war zone and watching death all around you can do to you. Please pick this book up.
A Certain Hunger by Chelsea G. Summers
Genre(s): Contemporary, Literary, Horror, Thriller
My rating: 4.25 stars
Honestly, I did enjoy this, but it was a little disappointing.
I think it had a lot of things going for it, but it just missed the mark for me in ways I haven’t been able to articulate yet. Also, the chapters were SO LONG, which automatically lowers a score for me.
If you are a fan of women serial killer novels, pretentious main characters and want something a bit more subversive, I think you could really like this.
What books did you read this week? Let me know in the comments!
